Anthony is a recognised expert with more than 20 years’ experience in cross-border M&A, corporate law and international arbitration. Over the span of his professional career, Anthony has taken part in some of the largest corporate projects and deals in the Russian market. Anthony has represented clients in a wide range of international disputes, including those arising out of breaches of share purchase agreements, shareholders’ agreements and joint venture agreements. He has conducted international commercial arbitrations, among others, in the ICC, LCIA, DIAC, HKIAC and SCC. e is consistently recognized by leading national and international agencies for English law transactional and international disputes work.

Qualification

Representing a major Russian airline in the High Court of England in a dispute under $100m leasing agreements.

Representing a Cypriot company in a multijurisdictional corporate dispute with BVI companies arising out of a joint venture agreement.

The dispute involved multiple jurisdictions, including Switzerland, Cyprus, and Russia, as well as arbitration proceedings administered under the LCIA Rules.

Representing a Hong Kong company in an LCIA arbitration re a $50m dispute with a European company arising from a loan agreement related to a mining project.

Advising the purchaser of a major Russian tobacco business in relation to its rights under key warranties and indemnities given by the seller.

The case also included preparation of pre-action notices and settlement agreements.

Corporate Law

Advising Etalon Group, one of the top 10 largest property developers in Russia, on the acquisition of a 35% stake in the UK-based innovative construction company QB Technology, as well as the acquisition of rights in relation to a complex of intellectual property assets and the registration of a high-tech product in the construction sector in Russia.

Advising HeadHunter on its acquisition of a stake in the YouDo platform.

The transaction was structured under both Russian and English law.

Advising Japan Tobacco on its acquisition of the Donskoy Tabak group for approximately $1.6bn.

Advising one of the largest Russian banks on two simultaneous transactions under which the bank sold its 45% stake in Yandex.Market to Yandex for a cash consideration of RUB 42bn and acquired Yandex’s 25% interest in Yandex.Money for RUB 2.4bn.

Advising Coalco Development on the sale of a 50% interest in the White Square Class A office and retail complex in Moscow for $400m.

Advising the seller of the SamaraNefteGaz group to Rosneft for approximately US$ 350m
Advising a diversified Russian holding on its sale of Yota, a leading Russia 4G operator to MegaFon for approximately $1.75bn.

Anthony is consistently recognized by leading agencies for English law transactional and disputes work.

Among Anthony’s clients are major companies in the energy, trading, construction, industrial, and transportation sectors, as well as banks, investment funds, telecommunications holdings, and petrochemical enterprises. Anthony is registered as an arbitrator with the International Commercial Arbitration Court (Russia), the Russian Arbitration Center, the Vienna International Arbitration Center, the Arbitration Center of the Swedish Camber of Commerce, the Tashkent International Arbitration Centre, Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia (AMCA) and the Dubai International Arbitration Center (DIAC). Anthony is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MСIArb). Previously Anthony worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
