Evgeny Voronin, Counsel in the Dispute Resolution Practice at DGP: on “safe harbours” for disputes and flexible arbitration clauses

Evgeny Voronin commented for Expert magazine on how geopolitics and sanctions-related restrictions affect the choice of arbitration venues and how businesses approach the drafting of arbitration agreements.

The article notes that, amid sanctions and compliance risks, Russian companies are increasingly looking for alternatives to traditional European arbitration centres and are turning to venues in Asia and the Middle East; however, the stability and neutrality of even these jurisdictions may also be influenced by geopolitical developments. Evgeny Voronin emphasises that not only the choice of seat matters strategically, but also the quality of the arbitration clause - hence businesses’ growing need for flexible dispute resolution arrangements.
