DGP Partner Spoke at an Expert Legal Conference

On December 11, Yury Makhonin, a partner in DGP’s Dispute Resolution practice, took part in the conference “The Legal Market. All the Experts Are Here,” organized by Expert magazine. The event is regarded as one of the most authoritative platforms for representatives of major companies, legal departments, and industry media.

During the conference’s second session, Yury delivered a presentation titled “Cross-Border Insolvency Involving Russian Debtors: 2024–2025,” in which he commented on current trends in the insolvency sphere.

Drawing on his experience advising on cross-border proceedings, Yury discussed, using specific case studies:

• the prospects for recognition abroad of Russian judgments in bankruptcy cases;
• the ability to enforce against a debtor’s assets located abroad;
• the impact of sanctions on participants in insolvency proceedings, the “unfriendly state” designation, and the absence of reciprocity between states on the recognition and enforcement of Russian court judgments.

The presentation drew particular attention from the audience: in recent years, Russia has seen a marked increase in cross-border insolvency cases. In this environment, businesses and lawyers are compelled to revisit their approaches, taking into account a legal landscape reshaped by regulatory changes, sanctions, and new business models.
