DGP Held Meeting with Representatives of the Hong Kong Business Community
On 20 October 2025, Dyakin, Gortsunyan & Partners (DGP) represented by Partner Yuri Makhonin, Counsel Tatiana Polevshchikova, Alexander Nazarov, Evgeny Voronin, and Junior Associate Diana Aramian — hosted a private meeting with representatives of the Hong Kong business community. The event was held with the support of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Hong Kong.
Mr Anatoly V. Kargapolov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Hong Kong, opened the meeting with a welcome address.
The event titled “International Arbitration as a Forum for Resolving Disputes Between Chinese and Russian Parties” featured a presentation by Yuri Makhonin on key dispute resolution mechanisms involving Russian and Chinese companies. He also highlighted the advantages of Hong Kong as a seat of arbitration.
“Hong Kong has traditionally been considered one of the most attractive venues for resolving international disputes. It currently maintains a neutral status with respect to the Russian Federation, which makes it especially relevant today. Since 2022, Russian businesses have increasingly turned to Asia — including Hong Kong — as an alternative to traditional jurisdictions such as London, Stockholm, or Paris,” said Yuri Makhonin.
“Over the past decade, the Hong Kong legal and arbitration community has made significant efforts to build trust and foster growing interest among Russian parties. We’ve seen a notable increase in interaction between Russian and Hong Kong businesses, as well as a greater presence of Russian companies in the region. In this context, open dialogue among stakeholders is essential — and legal professionals with a deep understanding of both international and domestic dispute resolution in Hong Kong play a key role in enabling such dialogue,” Tatiana Polevshchikova noted.
This initiative continues DGP’s ongoing efforts - in addition to regularly advising clients on a wide range of Hong Kong-related dispute resolution matters, the firm organized events during Hong Kong Arbitration Week in both 2023 and 2024.
Dyakin, Gortsunyan & Partners expresses its sincere gratitude to the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Hong Kong for their comprehensive support in organizing the event.
